Teaching Philosophy

As a Suzuki & Wee Violin trained instructor, here are some of the basic principles of teaching I follow in my studio.

Play

Children learn best through play, and I strive to ensure that every lesson includes an element of play, which leads to joyful and natural learning.

Singing

To develop well-rounded musicians with a solid foundation, I believe in the power of learning our first instrument—our voice—alongside the violin. Singing trains the ear and opens the door to exploring music from around the world while building violin skills.

Joyful & Natural Learning

Learning can and should be free from tears, tantrums, and negativity. I am dedicated to creating a positive, nurturing environment where my students can succeed.

Aural Learning

While all my students learn to read sheet music proficiently, they begin with aural learning. Just as we learn to speak before we learn to read, it is important to first develop the ear and train it to recognize the sound of beautiful music.

Movement

Incorporating movement into lessons helps young children develop muscle control and rhythm, both of which are essential for successful violin playing.

A Village

Children need a supportive community to succeed, which is why I involve parents or other caregivers in lessons and home practice. Group classes are also a vital part of the learning process, as children need peers to motivate and encourage them.

Tammy, mother of Selah

"Lessons with Cammi are a delightful time we look forward to, and we leave inspired, encouraged, and challenged to learn new things, and polish acquired music goals. I say "we" because as a parent, my participation in observing, taking notes, and learning ways for my child to practice at home is encouraged and welcomed."

Nicole, mother of Addi

"Cammi is so much more than a teacher! She ministers to the students in such a loving and grace-filled way that it’s impossible for them not to love her. She encourages, guides, and teaches them with a joy that is contagious. My daughter went from a shy and introverted young girl, to a confident and strong violinist under Cammi’s tutelage. We will forever be grateful to Cammi for the love she poured into our daughter’s musical education. She truly makes learning fun and exciting."

Jessica, mother of Callie

"Our daughter really enjoyed her lessons with Cammi and her confidence grew so quickly as she was able to play a song after her first practice. Cammi’s method is great for building confidence quickly and without frustration."
